Project Description

tk92 is multi-platform software for configuring
Radio Shack PRO-92 and PRO-2067 scanner radios. It
lets you read a memory image from the receiver or
an SPG file, view and change settings using a
graphical interface, and sort memory channels by
frequency or by label. Users can import and export
memory channel and talk group data from CSV files.
tk92 can then write the image from the computer
back to the radio.

This release works on both Windows and Linux with the "Purple" cloning cable, the original GRE cable, Bill Petrowsky's simplified op amp cable, and an RT Systems CT-29A cable fitted with a 3-to-2 pin adaptor. Other cables may work as well, after configuring the serial port settings.

EDACS talk group IDs can be entered and displayed in either decimal or AFS format. When inserting new channels through the GUI, the new channel's Unused flag will be cleared and the Unused flags for channels higher in the bank will be moved along with the frequency, label, and other fields. An error message will be displayed if a conventional type bank contains talk groups. Additional balloon help windows explain controls for new users.

Memory bank channels can now be edited within tk92. Channels can be changed, deleted, inserted, or swapped with adjacent channels. Talk groups can be changed within tk92. The 10 weather channels can be reprogrammed. tk92 opens the serial port just before reading from or writing to the radio instead of when the program begins. A priority channel can be assigned. The backlight can be set to stay on until the PRO-92 is powered off by setting the backlight timeout to 0 seconds. A bug in encoding the 4-line Welcome message has been fixed.

A new command in the Radio menu lets users adjust serial communications port timing to suit their computer and radio requirements. This should be adjusted until tk92 can consistently write an image to the radio without failure. A new, preprogrammed set of fleet maps for Motorola systems is available. Motorola Type 1 talk group IDs are now represented in the form BFFF-S or BFF-SS, where B is the Block digit, FFF or FF is the fleet number, and SS or S is the subfleet number. A bug in handling LTR talk group IDs shorter than 6 digits long has been fixed.
