Project Description

KutttPech is a MPEG-player in Java, capable of
playing MPEG-1 within your browser without
downloading any irritating plug-in. It is
specialized in handling live MPEG streams, but
can play files just as easely. It plays Layer 2
audio on most browsers with java 1.1/1.2 and on
all browsers with 1.3. It can cut P-FRAMES and
B-FRAMES if the machine is too slow to handle
them, so as to maintain a small lag. It can run
outside a browser as an application and is
reasonably fast.

All of the known reload bugs were fixed. In the
process of doing this, audio was enabled in
Netscape 4.x under Windows. KutttPech can now
switch between different streams, which is handy
for situations with changing bandwidth.
Pre-buffering of video/audio is also possible. A
scrollbar and a few buttons were implemented.
Debugging information like bits/sec, frames/sec,
and GOP-size can be displayed. A lot of other
weird bugs were also fixed.

The audio system now automatically detects which audio to use, or if it should use audio at all (currently works on Explorer, but not yet on Netscape 4.x without JAVA 1.3). Audio synchronization was greatly improved, and minor bugs were fixed, some of which improved speed as well as the memory usage.
